Tallahassee, FL – Today Representative Nick DiCeglie (R-Indian Rocks Beach) filed HB 53, Public Works Projects. This legislation will incorporate traditional free-market principles into the construction industry when local governments use taxpayer dollars for the construction of public works projects.
“This bill ensures that local governments are using a transparent, competitive bidding process when they consider these large construction projects.” Said Representative DiCeglie. “These local governments are tasked with being good stewards of taxpayer dollars. Not by playing favorites, but instead by incorporating proven procurement practices.”
This legislation:
- Confirms taxpayer dollars are well spent by ensuring that local jurisdictions use the most competitive bidding practices available
- Warrants that local governments not play favorites in the bidding process at the expense of them spending more taxpayer funding
- Injects competition and free-market principles into the contracting process, by reducing burdensome mandates set by local entities
- Brings additional construction companies and individuals to the bidding table in an effort to use Floridian’s tax dollars more effectively
“Too many times we see inefficient spending on construction projects.” Stated Rep. DiCeglie. “HB 53 dives into finding real solutions in this bidding process. While consequently helping Floridian’s become more comfortable knowing their tax dollars are being used to their potential in the construction of these important public projects.”
